Gurudwara Singh Sabha, Anna Nagar
A prominent Sikh place of worship in west Chennai, known for its active community programmes and daily langar service.
History
Gurudwara Singh Sabha in Anna Nagar was established in the 1980s to serve the growing Sikh community in west Chennai. As families from Punjab and other northern states settled in the expanding Anna Nagar locality, the need for a Gurudwara closer to home grew. The Singh Sabha movement, which emphasises education and community welfare, inspired the founding of this Gurudwara. Today it runs a small school, organises blood donation camps, and hosts interfaith harmony events.
Architecture
The Gurudwara follows the traditional Sikh architectural style with a white facade, a central dome, and the nishan sahib (Sikh pennant) at the entrance. The prayer hall is air-conditioned and can seat around 200 people. The langar hall is well-equipped with a modern kitchen. The building also includes classrooms for Punjabi language and Gurbani (scripture) classes.
